The enduring rock n roll band, Chicago formed, unsurprisingly enough, in Chicago the city. The city’s rich diversity in population and cultures meant that the band members were steeped in a rich goulash of musical styles and philosophies. The Chicago blues was a wonderful movement in the 40s that melded Mississippi/delta black music, the “original” blues, with a new rock edge – Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf were the most famous children of this movement, with other luminaries like Paul Butterfield, Buddy Guy, Sonny Boy Williamson and BB King. The self-described "rock and roll band with horns" began as a politically charged, sometimes experimental, rock band and later moved to a predominantly softer sound, generating several hit ballads!

Earth, Wind and Fire drew from various streams of black music, synthesizing soul, funk, R&B, pop, gospel and African styles into a polished, precision-tooled approach. During the latter half of the Seventies, the band issued a string of albums that changed the face of black popular music, linking thrilling music with uplifting messages of racial pride, African consciousness and spiritual unity. To date, the band has won six Grammy Awards and four American Music Awards. They have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. They have sold over 90 million albums worldwide earning them a place on the list of best-selling music artists where they are ranked as the seventh best selling American band of all time.
